Hindsight is 2020!
Hi There,
DRIVEN’s final blog article of 2020 (the year of “Clarity”) brought hindsight into the foreground using Mindfulness. Whereas most of us likely want to bury this year in the past for obvious reasons, in order to leverage the Growth Mindset, we must instead learn from 2020, growing stronger and wiser from the challenges we faced.
So, this December, instead of focusing on that same tired New Year’s Resolution of dropping weight, shine a spotlight on your good fortune. Express gratitude for what you do have as opposed to what you don’t. Start developing a renewed “attitude of gratitude” to get you through this winter, starting today. Here are some possibilities:
• Keep a Gratitude Journal: It’s as simple as having a daily gratitude practice acknowledging that you’re safe, under shelter, and able to eat. Feel like you have nothing to be grateful for? Read Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale for perspective.
• Appreciate What You Eat: You have many opportunities to express gratitude each day. Take for example the meals you consume. Do you merely eat for sustenance, or do you take the time to find pleasure in the sensations of smelling, chewing and tasting food?
• Show Someone You Care: Watch this 6-minute TEDx Talk from Drew Dudley. Then take 3 minutes to write a note to someone who enriched your life. Here’s the note I recently received:
“I hope this message finds you safe and well. I was just doing some training with staff on the new COIVD-19 protocols and thought of you and how your training still helps me to this day with my everyday work. I’m passing on your work ethics and knowledge to others and wanted you to know that even so many years later you are still making others better.”
Imagine how they’ll feel as they’re reading your message from out of the blue!
We at DRIVEN are grateful to you for taking the time to read our weekly messages and seeing the world a bit more “hopefully”. Next week’s message will explore being intentional about the dark days of winter, thereby creating opportunity out of crisis.
Cheers!
-Deborah
