DRIVEN Newsletter May 2, 2023

From "Laying Low" to "On the Go"!

April was my self-proclaimed month of recovery, when my aspiration was to rebuild and fortify my resilience. You see, I’d realized in March that I was exhausted— big E exhausted; not light on sleep, but truly wiped out. After 2+ years of absorbing crises including the pandemic, climate change disasters, the Dobbs decision, relentless political polarization, and selling our home while acquiring our new one (which involved three moves), it made sense that I was dog tired!

So, I self-prescribed my recovery month as an experiment. Thanks to the growth mindset, my attitude is that “experiments never fail”. And I know this may sound ridiculous, but my month of “doing less, being more” was difficult! I wrote about some of these challenges in this month’s DRIVEN blog article.

There were some positive aspects of my recovery, too. I got better at adhering to my commitment to intentional prioritization and boundaries as the month progressed. I became fully ensconced in the joys of watching our new garden begin to reveal itself (Since this is our first spring in our new home, each day delivers evolving surprises). And there was time to partake in a Food and Environmental Justice Summit, which most certainly made me ponder pattern disruption. I also got to listen to many marination-worthy podcasts.

If this last bit is intriguing to you, take an hour to listen to Dan Harris interviewing Gabor Mate, titled, “Modern life is making you sick, but it doesn’t have to.” This is an invitation for self-compassion, and every human deserves this self-given gift.

While my April could’ve been described as “laying low”, May will be a different story. I can’t believe the month has finally arrived for me to reunite, in-person, with my Conversational Intelligence® European Collective colleagues. We will be gathering outside of Munich for a long-awaited retreat!

We’ll have 3+ days to connect, share, learn and experiment with each other’s experiences, successes and challenges in our individual businesses. Our group consists of coaches from 4 continents, each living by the tenets of C-IQ. This means I’ll be surrounded by people who listen deeply, ask powerful questions, and are committed to supporting others with co-creation and celebration.

I’ve been honored to bear witness and contribute to our co-created C-IQ conference agenda. This community is a living example of the strength of creating WOWs (Ways of Working), which builds trust and allows for rich and engaging programming.

I’ll be reporting in about the retreat in June’s newsletter.

Until then, here are two questions to consider: On a scale from one to ten, where would you rate yourself when it comes to listening deeply, asking powerful questions, and supporting those on your team and in your life with celebration? What could you do this month to increase your rating by one point?

Cheers!
