The Power of a One-Degree Shift

Looking back at May, it seems humorous that I thought I could “time box” my recuperation. You see, April was my month to recover from self-diagnosed burnout, as my battery had been living dangerously in the red zone!

Sadly, as of May 1st, I still hadn’t felt fully vibrant, exuberant, and energized— at least not yet. Adam Grant might say I was languishing

The good news and a great lesson were that changing my environment, and surrounding myself with people I admire, provided the extra boost of energy I needed. I’ve never felt better! And as we get older, this is not necessarily a given

Our European C-IQ Collective retreat was a huge success! If you’re interested in learning about our takeaways, I’ve written about them in this month’s DRIVEN blog article, and will share three of the big takeaways on Tuesdays through June.

Regrettably, not everything has been as upbeat as my retreat experience in May. The coaching world lost a beloved leader, David Peterson. Recently voted the #1 Corporate Coach by Marshall Goldsmith, Peterson passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of the month. I was introduced to David’s work via the ACE certification I earned last summer. As my dear colleague and friend Deborah Naish wrote, “This is another reminder of the preciousness and fleeting nature of our lives.” So true! As such, I ask you: How are you appreciating your life

Looking forward, although Memorial Day is considered the unofficial kick-off of summer, June 21st marks its official beginning. It also marks my first anniversary of living in my new Hudson Valley home. I will appreciate these next several weeks of wonder as our garden continues to reveal its seasonal firsts.

I’m also on-boarding new clients this month. It never ceases to inspire me to ponder what each motivated professional will discover during our coaching engagements. It reminds me of each time I write on the first page in a new journal— a delighted curiosity surfaces. What will these pages contain? What will pour out of my pen? What can I do today to influence and inspire living a healthier life? After all, a one-degree shift can make all the difference (ask any golfer about the veracity of this sentiment.)

If you’d like to discover small shifts that could affect your fulfillment…in your work, in your body, in your community, and in your life, perhaps coaching will benefit you. I invite you to explore investing in yourself this summer. If your initial reaction is that coaching is too expensive, consider that like perfume, just a little goes a long way. Your future self will thank you!

Cheers!

Deborah & Ute's New Column is Here!

The Three Tomatoes have added a new recurring blog to their digital magazine called Sustaining Resilience. If that title sounds familiar, it’s because DRIVEN founder Deborah Goldstein is one of the contributors to this new column along with her writing partner Ute Franzen-Waschke. Read their first article at 3T, which covers their set of intentions for this column going forward. And if you’re intrigued by DRIVEN’s full Sustaining Resilience platform, check this page out!

Take Stewardship of Our Environment.

Farming, ecological sustainability, and Native American wisdom are topics that often appeal to the responsible citizens of our fragile planet. We’ve discovered a Kripalu online event series that merges all three! The Amplify Voices of the Global Majority Summit was aired in April, and together, participants learned of culture, expanded our perspectives, envisioned the future, and obtained resources to further our collective stewardship of the Earth. If you’re curious about this important body of work, sign up for access to the recordings here. These replays are free of charge, but the ideas they present are priceless!

The Responsibility of Watching.

Last month’s Social Justice Study Circle session explored the question, “To Watch, or Not To Watch?” It’s based on a recent thought-provoking NY Times article which considers the thin line that separates witnessing from spectatorship in a media world full of violent body camera videos. We’re extending this question to our community as we enter an election season that promises to be fraught with attention-grabbing, controversial, and even conspiratorial notions. Consider taking a few moments today to decide for yourself whether it’s dopamine or adrenaline that drives your curiosities, and start to become intentional about consuming your news before it consumes you.
