For Body Image Obsession, the Solution Awaits.
Looking back over the short month of February, I recognize that humans tend to feel alone in our challenges, and yet, so many of us share similar struggles. You see, I’d written about my lifelong tussle with my own body image, which is where I “humorously” suggested that my body persona needs a rebranding.
It was a rude awakening to discover that unlike naming emotions out loud, when naming my negative self-esteem out loud, the pain didn’t cease— yet. The silver lining is that many readers and network colleagues have shared a feeling of recognition because they struggle with body image, too.
I DO acknowledge that my body image challenge started several decades ago, so it’s going to take some time to retrain my brain. In this spirit, although February is over, my body image processing is not. I’ve signed up for a virtual session addressing “body and food obsession” on April 6th at Kripalu. In the spirit of community, I’ve set up a web conference to “debrief and discuss” the session on Monday, April 10th at 5pm ET. If you’re interested in joining the discussion, sign up for the Kripalu experience and hit ‘reply’ to this message. I’ll include you on the Zoom invitation.
While I continue to embrace my habits and practices thanks to my “able bodied” status, March brings forth a couple of new adventures. The first is a writing alliance that will serve like-minded people, specifically women over 40.
As much as I enjoyed writing for The Forbes Coaches Council, the last couple of years felt limiting. My colleague Ute Franzen-Waschke and I had become writing partners but were unable to officially share the byline. While we understand Forbes’ policy, Ute and I decided to find a virtual venue that would welcome our partnership. We approached longtime colleague Cheryl Benton about contributing to The Three Tomatoes— an impressive digital magazine.
When we discussed what would be most valuable to Cheryl’s readers, this Head Tomato asked the magic question: “Well, you fit the 3T demographic. What are you interested in reading about?” So, starting this spring, Ute and I will be writing on 3T about communication, leadership, health & wellbeing, and other topics important to like-minded motivated women!
I’ll also be laying the foundation for DRIVEN’s new offering: Sustaining Resilience. This program has grown out of the DRIVEN to Wellness series and has the added component of Intentional Productivity as a fourth module. While we’re developing this for organizational use, we are considering an individual consumer dimension, too.
As we all settle into March, I’ll continue my practice of reflection over the last decade of growth at DRIVEN, and continue to feel grateful for each person in my network who has contributed to our evolution. You know who you are!
Cheers!
