What Uncertainty and Overwhelm Have in Common.
Three weeks ago, a stormy day put us into a state of emergency here in the Hudson Highlands. 3+ inches of heavy rainfall fell upon my doorstep in a short period, while our neighbors just a few miles away endured 8 inches in less than half a day! Local roads were washed away, lawns became lakes, and basements remain flooded even now. This weather event served to ramp up my angst about the future effects of climate change.
Turns out, the timing of this turmoil synchronized with my preparation for a workshop series called “Surviving and Thriving During Uncertain Times”. And since the uncertainties of politics, economics, global stability and climate change are taking up more media space each passing day, I choose to become active in managing my own uncertainty-related anxieties. I even devoted this month’s DRIVEN blog article to the topic.
On a brighter note, July was spent transitioning the DRIVEN website from the code-oriented WordPress platform to the more intuitive Squarespace. I invite you to check out the new site!
Whether it be the services we offer, the organizations with whom we partner, or what people are saying about their DRIVEN experience, I’m confident you will be inspired!
And then there is our blog. WOW! Here are a few things I realized during the transition to our new cyber home:
1. We have written more than 500 blog posts since our inception in 2013.
2. We explored the four dimensions of Emotional Intelligence in an extended series of blog posts.
3. We teased out the components of GRACE in the Workplace (Grit, Resilience, Authenticity, Confidence, and Emotional Intelligence)
4. We’ve shared tips and tools to promote Intentional Productivity, from brain science, to schedule management, to habits and practices, to the “secret sauce” of IP.
Looking forward through August, I’ll enjoy creating weekly videos and a resource collection for my clients’ human capital to better manage overwhelm. We’ve designed a challenge for them to embed a new practice, to encourage some friendly workplace competition, and to promote connection (with overwhelm, we often feel alone). We’re also looking forward to two more weeks of vacation, with the aspiration of starting September with full energy tanks.
Wishing you a restful and reenergizing August!
Cheers!

Support "The Suit".
Have you had the privilege of witnessing someone bring a lifelong passion to fruition? My LONG-TIME friend, Carol McCann, is doing just that! Her devotion to theatre, singing, writing and production have come together in Carol’s short film, The Suit. This charming story is one of family relationships, empathy, and a palpable devotion to honoring loved ones. If you’ve considered supporting the arts, I’m recommending a contribution to Carol’s GoFundMe page. You’ll help boost her passion project from idea into reality!
Be 10% Happier.
It’s thrilling to see DRIVEN network colleagues and allies as they grow and thrive in their careers. And when it comes to Laura Vanderkam, we are especially delighted when she gains recognition. After all, DRIVEN’s Intentional Productivity platform has a solid streak of Laura’s wisdom woven through our methodology. So, we invite you to check out Laura’s interview with Dan Harris on the 10% Happier Podcast. As usual, Laura widens our lens and challenges our assumptions about productivity. Listen today, and get ready to feel more centered, energized and optimistic, instantly.
Women Talking.
Sarah Polley directed the 2022 film Women Talking, which is based on Miriam Toews' novel Women Talking. It’s drawn from events that came to light in a Bolivian Mennonite colony in 2009, when a group of men was charged with raping more than 100 girls and women in their community. While the movie is tough to watch, it explores the opposing thought processes of a group of these women as they consider their response to this unsettling realization. As we continue to be drawn in, the brilliance of the questions from these illiterate women leads them to fascinating moral, political, and theological considerations. The women voice their fears, their anger, and their doubts, and for the first time openly question the hypocrisy of their religion and the patriarchal structure of their society.
