DRIVEN Newsletter Jun 7, 2022

Moving On Can Be Bittersweet.

May was a LONG month, and it wasn’t the extra day. It presented an abundance of opportunities for my own personal growth— as a human, as a coach, and as a spouse. On a personal note, after 7 months and two heartbreaks, Michael and I are now in contract on a new home!

This means it’s time to acknowledge that moving truly ranks as one of the top five stressful life events. Despite my awareness of this AND my work with clients to help them manage their stress, I proceeded to fall victim to the power of stress during this big change.

June’s DRIVEN blog article describes how I’ve experienced the three dimensions of stress— the same ones I help people recognize in our DRIVEN to Wellness workshops. It’s crazy and honestly hilarious that when I am under stress, I DO become narrow-minded and short-sighted. I’ve been practicing compassion for myself and apologizing to Michael a whole lot!

Thankfully, my personal stumbles and growth opportunities didn't diminish the impact my coaching had on clients. Nor did they prevent me from supporting my squads in making additional strides in the 9-month effort of a client in their initiative called Co-Create Culture (CCC). This initiative is proving successful because of the long runway given to make change. The consistent messaging is resonating: “Urgent matters do get in the way, and yet, small steps equate to big progress, like compound interest.”

Looking forward to June leaves me more excited still. Similar to March, following an ambitious February, June will be a month of “recovery”. This means fewer work obligations, more meditation, and lots of journaling. By default, it also implies an immense amount of packing. Lastly, I’m going to intentionally enjoy the awe of our final months in our charming home by the lake: every last dramatic sunrise, every kayak paddle-out, and the entertainment of every bird tweet, duck quack, chipmunk squeak and squirrel kerfuffle— until we move on to our next life adventure. Talk about emotional ambivalence!

This move is bittersweet; but as my father Stanley reminded me, “It’s best to stop eating when you’re enjoying it the most”.

How about you? What will you be doing this summer to recover from the heaviness of the last couple of years? What self-care practices are you invested in applying?

Cheers!

Combating Stress in a New Work Paradigm.

The brand-new Forbes.com article by my writing partner Ute Franzen-Waschke has just been published and is the second in our new series on Health and Well-Being! Ute follows the baseline introduced in my article on Breathing and takes the series to the next level. Link to Ute’s article here and enjoy the ride!

Building Women's Power Through Conversation.

If you're someone who takes personal pride in embracing the Growth Mindset, you understand the importance of taking time to reflect on and consider others' perspectives. You’ll also enjoy this remarkable list of "advice” shared by our friends at IT ALL Media, a powerful and bold media resource inspired by and devoted to women (un)doing “IT ALL.” Link to any of these and prepare for personal liftoff!

Hold The Presses!

Before you finalize your summer reading list, there is one book you cannot miss. #morninghaiku is a delightful and spiritually enhancing book recently published by my new friend, Carin Crook. Carin created this book of haikus over the last couple of years, and the result is yet another “silver lining” of Covid shutdown. I find myself laughing, crying, and using some of Carin's lines as journaling prompts. I suspect you will, too! Purchase your copy HERE.
