Keep Moving!

Hi There,

With winter on its way, a slowdown in our Physical Energy is inevitable. Now is the time to start considering and even practicing some habit adjustment goals for increasing your daily movement.

For a little perspective, I've adapted my outlook recently about sitting being the new smoking. That prize now goes to Stillness— a state that many of us are tempted to remain in during an era when most of our interactions keep us confined to the computer.

Ideally, your physical energy “investment” would constitute a cardiovascular workout. This entails elevating your heartrate above 120 beats per minute for more than 20 minutes per day. We can all get our heads around that, especially when considering that doubling the time does NOT equate to double the benefit. 20 minutes, and you’re good to go!

But at the very least, if you do not have an ideal living situation for grabbing those 20 minutes of cardio every day, the goal remains to “keep moving”. Set your alarm to ring once EVERY HOUR. Get up from your seat or step away from your standing desk and actually walk around your workspace for a minute. Stretch your arms and your back. Consider adding in some pushups and crunches....don't worry, no one is watching! Also, if you have a window that offers you a change of scenery, exercise your eyes by looking into the distance. Bask in the limited sunshine that will hopefully be poking in.

No matter which approach you choose, you can track your progress with Goldie’s Handy Habit Tracker. This tool is not only effective, but it will inspire you to keep up those Physical Energy habits, ensuring momentum during the sometimes-dreary days of winter. If you have some strategies of your own, please share them. We and our readers would love to learn them!

Cheers!
