You Can Handle This!
Hi There,
During these times of political uncertainty and the wrath of a deadly virus, our emotional energy is at risk. This is something we don’t always take steps to alleviate, as pandemic-era emergencies small and large win our attention. But with some practical psychological restructuring, we have the power to make these times much more manageable.
Here’s a little example. Think back to when you may have been commuting to work. You were actually multi-tasking. In addition to physically transporting yourself from home to office, you were psychologically transitioning from family life to work and back again. But as work and life overlap during the work-from-home era, work can expand too easily to an all-day/all-night affair. You can avoid this by training your thoughts and actions to replace the ride to-and-from work with a transitional practice of bookending your workday.
Two ideas that have been working for DRIVEN clients are A) proverbially closing the door to your workspace once your workday has begun, and B) getting dressed professionally during work hours to add structure to your mental attitude— not necessarily a suit, but an outfit that inspires you to sit up a little straighter and remain in business mode.
Of similar importance is your transition back to home life. This means leaving your work worries at “the office”. Some client ideas include making a cup of tea to slowly sip and unwind with, doing ten minutes of yoga, and taking a short outdoor walk after changing into “at-home clothes”. I like to prime myself for the next workday by opening related documents, scanning the tasks and then physically closing my laptop. It’s the equivalent of locking an office door. Plus, pulling up tomorrow’s assignment early lets my brain marinate on the task at hand, no mental energy depleted!
Check your inbox next week for some spiritual energy ideas that will truly lift you up. Also, prepare to hear an exciting announcement and offer from DRIVEN soon!
Cheers!
