The Excitement of The New!

June was an interesting month, to say the least! During my self-proclaimed “month of recovery”, Michael and I closed on our new home, went into contract with a buyer on our beloved lake home, and are two-thirds of the way through our move. Phew!

It was fascinating to witness how my cadence of work and life increased to 1.5 speed. Ratcheting up my pace to clear my calendar for packing rewarded me with clarity of mind. The excitement of the “new” sharpened my focus and motivated me to work smart(er).

Equally intriguing was how I witnessed myself respond to stress. Yikes! I’m embarrassed by and ashamed of some of the less-than-gentile displays I exhibited. After all, I help my clients better manage stress and as much as I practice what I preach, as many will attest, I’m far from perfect

True, my emotions were a bit strained due to the logistics of moving. At the same time, I’m devastated about the ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health. And yet, I get to choose to focus my energy where I, myself can make a difference.

So, looking forward through July, I will:

 1. Facilitate the last round of sessions of the 9-month project with an international Fortune 500 corporation, titled Co-Creating Culture.

 2. Create a retrospective, as two substantial coaching client engagements have just wrapped up.

 3. Employ the tools and techniques learned from my current continuing education endeavor with coaching clients (A.C.E. is aptly named: Accelerating Coaching Excellence. It does exactly that!)

Besides these quantitative goals for July, I am delighted at the prospect of my qualitative goals. After we complete our move to our new home, I will carve out observation and reflection time to refocus DRIVEN’s business to suit our new environment. Let the creativity begin!

What are your quantitative and qualitative goals for July? How will you utilize the summer to recharge your energy?

Cheers!

Give Yourself a Break.

Have you ever considered how to maintain your health and well-being from a workplace perspective? If you haven’t, take 4 minutes to read my current Forbes.com article. My writing partner Ute Franzen-Waschke and I are sharing a series of posts to support just this topic! The current article guides you through maximizing a 10-minute break to enhance all of your energy tanks and lower your stress level. Too good to be true? Check out a study that demonstrates just this!

This is Water.

Do you know the #1 blind spot every human endures? I help driven professionals recognize it as an essential part of coaching every day. And still, I was absolutely gob-smacked as I listened to David Foster Wallace discuss it in his famous 2005 commencement address at Kenyon College. Take a listen and get ready to see the world differently.

Coming Soon: donorsforum.net

I’ve been fully enjoying a volunteer activity that has ratcheted up since Covid-19 stopped the world in its tracks: Acting as “tech support” for The Donors’ Forum. Each monthly meeting showcases a fascinating discussion between a leader in the world of NFP— philanthropy advisor Doug White, and members of the forum. To think, in its 19+ years of existence, The Donors’ Forum didn’t have a website. Until NOW! Get ready for donorsforum.net, launching at the beginning of August!
