A Mountain of Gratitude.
I’m writing from DRIVEN’s new home in Garrison, NY, and I’m incredibly grateful for the accuracy of this year’s Farmers’ Almanac. It predicted, which I sometimes mistake as a promise, a long and mild autumn. And that’s precisely what we’re enjoying!
As I look back on October, I also appreciate how much can be accomplished in as little as 15 minutes. I fully leveraged these quarter-hour chunks of time for each of my nearly three-dozen discovery interviews with prospective coaching clients. I’ve been invited back as an executive coach for the second cohort of leaders taking advantage of a telecommunication company’s commitment to supporting DEI.
It is encouraging to witness companies recognizing the value of coaching. In addition to the global organization mentioned above, a California client has invested in coaching for their employees as part of their tribute to World Mental Health Day. These motivated professionals can come away with strategies, tactics and baby steps to manage their lives in a more proactive fashion after only one session! I can feel the energy shift from powerless to powerful— sometimes gradually and in other instances like an electric shock of realization.
These inspiring interactions help with my perspective, as I continue to feel vulnerable about the growing pains associated with the learning curve of a new home. This autumn has been packed with service technicians parading through our space, enabling us to cross some winter worries off our to-do list.
Looking ahead through November, I’m extending the concept of gratitude from Thanksgiving to the entire month. If stores can exhibit Christmas decorations before Halloween, I can certainly choose to prolong a holiday dedicated to giving thanks!
In that spirit, I’m thankful to be onboarding many of those involved in discovery calls for their 6 coaching sessions to take place over these next months. Not only do the sessions help clients with perspective, but they serve to widen my lens as I learn about different roles, aspirations, struggles, challenges, and successes of clients.
I’m also grateful and pumped that our C-IQ European Collective North American retreat, postponed in September, will take place this month. There may even be some foreshadowing for our full collective retreat scheduled for May in Munich.
In an effort NOT to rush time, and to remain mindful of the moments, I’m appreciating the colorful foliage still clinging to the trees. I’ll remain in awe of my first autumn on this mountain while preparing enthusiastically for the cold months by filling a newly acquired chest freezer.
I’ll also continue to marinate on the concept of Emotional Equilibrium, which in my mind means emotional regulation with perspective. Stay tuned for postings on this topic. They may come in handy at this Thanksgiving’s dinner table.
Cheers!

Sustainability Meets EQ!
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the UN in 2015 provided a comprehensive plan for a sustainable world by 2030. The 17 goals cover a wide range of issues that involve people with different needs, values and convictions. There is a vision of what needs to happen, but progress toward this vision has been disappointing to date. We lack the inner capacity to deal with our increasingly complex environment and challenges. Fortunately, modern research shows that the inner abilities we humans need can be developed. This was the starting point for the Inner Development Goals initiative. Check them out, and embrace the opportunity for a two-fer: development of your own Emotional Intelligence that will result in a more sustainable world!
