Rushing Through The Universe.
Hi There,
The wise and inspiring Brené Brown traditionally closed her Dare to Lead podcast interviews with a series of rapid-fire questions. My favorite question, one that has inspired much introspection, is, “What is a lesson that you have to keep learning, and the universe is just like, ‘No, not yet’?”
Well, I shouldn’t have been surprised to find myself chuckling this week, as the universe kicked me in the tush once again. I’ve been marinating on and sharing ideas about the concept of “life is too short to rush”. Clearly, I haven’t learned my lesson— yet.
You see, I’ve been doing some internal work directed at my relationship with, of all things, productivity— humorous in itself, considering the fact that I created the platform and online course called Intentional Productivity!
The non-rushing sentiment was the topic of my March 14th weekly message. Ironically, the day that missive was released, Richard Glaser, a man who was important in my life, passed away. He was seemingly in perfect health one day and gone the next.
Nonetheless, I continue considering my “action bias”. Why do I have such trouble assessing when I’ve “done enough”? Why must I always be motivated to do one more thing, squeeze in one more activity, or rearrange my schedule to fit more tasks?
So, it was without irony that, last Thursday, the day I was scheduled to prep a few ambitious menus for various weekend guests, that my back went out!
Talk about putting on the brakes.
I was forced to slow down to a snail’s pace. What’s more, I had to instantly become very choosy about what I needed to do. It was a classic prioritization of “need to have vs nice to have”. What a great lesson in intentional productivity!
Happily, as I write this message, my lower back is getting stronger and I’m operating at 80% capacity. I can live with that for today, as I continue to marinate on WHY the “life is too short” lesson continues to appear.
I’m also curious: What is the lesson that continues to come up in your life? What does the universe continue to remind you to consider?
And here’s another question for reflection: How can you slow down this spring, and begin to address, digest and accept the lesson our universe continues to offer to you?
Cheers!
