Success in 2023 Starts Now!

Hi There,

Thanksgiving weekend provided an ideal opportunity for many of us to tap into our Emotional Equilibrium. This is a concept I’ve been marinating on all month. I’ve taken this half-baked theory out for multiple test drives during the emotional course of November.

When you zoom out to consider, we have numerous opportunities to leverage Emotional Equilibrium as we navigate daily activities. Think about it: Have you ever become impatient waiting on a long line at the grocer? How about frustrated by the sound of dueling leaf blowers inching closer right before an important call? Or irritated by Wi-Fi becoming sluggish when you’re feeling pressured for time? I bet you could make your own endless list of these pesky predicaments!

Well, I’ve been making a game out of “catching myself” in the act of emotional vacillation and asking myself a series of questions to rapidly return to equilibrium. The result: I’ve been feeling progressively stronger and more able to keep my emotions in alignment— up to a point. And I hit that point this past weekend.

November has seen Michael and me entertaining prolifically at our new home. Between family members, friends and C-IQ colleagues, we hosted houseguests 2 to 3 nights each week for the entire month! All this while we’re still acclimating to our new digs. My anxiety has felt at times like the soundtrack to a horror movie, and the added dimension of hosting created multiple exaggerated peaks in emotional turbulence.

This culminated with family activity at the Thanksgiving table last week. As much as I enjoy my family, I’m exhausted after being in their company.

In true introvert fashion, after our Thanksgiving festivities, I felt the need to revitalize my emotional fortitude. I granted myself the grace to restore my emotional resilience by committing to a weekend that was soothing and spacious. I intentionally attended to my physical, mental and spiritual energy tanks to support the refueling of my emotional energy.

It’s now Monday morning, and I’m feeling ready for the week ahead, for the new month that is upon us, and for success in the coming year.

Do you feel this way, too?

If not, ask yourself these questions to help take agency over your emotional equilibrium:

• How would perspective change my state of feeling?
• Is there validity to the emotion?
• How can I address the emotional stressor immediately?

Setting yourself up for a successful 2023 starts today!

Cheers!
