Dropping the “COVID Fifteen”
Hi There,
Well, the reply messages to last week’s question were consistent. Those who shared mentioned the single greatest self-care move they plan to make, and the consensus is clear: It’s time to get off our butts and lose the “COVID Fifteen” we’ve gained since March!
So, as my final message to you during this month of exploring the Clarity of Communication, let me share four small changes to make in your daily life that will set you on a path to managing that stubborn extra weight:
1. Focus Fully on Food. Determine when you will eat and stick to it. Avoid eating on the run or in front of your computer. Enjoy every delicious bite.
2. Reward Yourself Daily. Pre-portion a daily treat of something you absolutely LOVE to eat. A fan of chocolate? 100 calories = 4 Hershey’s Kisses. An extra act of self-love would be to eat chocolate with less sugar. Consider a few squares of single-origin chocolate, 70% cocoa or higher— a decadent brain food.
3. Ditch the Sugary Drinks. Sweetened teas and sodas, including diet soft drinks, are truly empty calories. Swap these for good old-fashioned water or plain bubbly water. You could even jazz things up by adding a drop of anise or almond extract to 12oz of seltzer and enjoy both the sugar-free flavor and the brain benefits of full hydration.
4. Change Your Language. Instead of “I should”, swap in the phrase “I can” or “I need to” or “I get to”. The words you say affect your attitude, as demonstrated by Linda Graham in her book Resilience. Instead of “needing to exercise”, it’s personally empowering to recognize how you WANT TO exercise, showing self-compassion and giving yourself a “present in the present”. Learn more HERE.
We are here to support you, so feel free to use Goldie’s Handy Habit Tracker to keep you on-target with these four tiny commitments. They will add up to BIG steps toward increased Physical Energy. And as always, I’m standing by to cheer you on in your efforts! Just hit “reply” to this email to share your experiences.
Cheers!
