Does Your Impact Align With Your Intention?

September was full of firsts in our new home and virtually! I was invited to watch a series of client “showcases” where highlights of the Co-Create Culture program were shared across the enterprise. This was a welcomed opportunity. You see, as a facilitator, traditionally, I “do my job” and don’t get to witness the impact of the program upon participants. These 4 presentations showcased the take-away highlights from each of the 16 squads that participated in the 9-month experience. Yesssssssss!! Sustainable cultural change in action.

And speaking of sustainable change, I fully engaged in a virtual

Kripalu course that looked to the Bhagavad Gita as the structure to investigate the meaning of life, managing paradox and finding one’s dharma. It was a treat to have signed up with 3 like-minded “life seekers”. We got to speak about our experiences and dig deeper. The course may be over, but the learning has just begun.

On an emotionally ambivalent note, the C-IQ EU Collective retreat I was eager to host was postponed due to a participant’s family emergency. While she encouraged us to go ahead without her, there was no question in the others’ minds to postpone. We’ll be meeting in November.

Looking ahead, October is going to be an ambitious month! One of my coaching contracts has renewed. It’ll be wonderful to continue with some clients from the organization’s first cohort while working with new motivated professionals accepted into the second cohort.

And it’s heartening to see how another client is committed to helping their employees manage stress and overwhelm. After the organization invested in DRIVEN to Wellness, they agreed there’s more support they can provide. So, in recognition of WMHD, we’re launching a coaching pilot program. Talk about a win-win-win situation.

What’s NOT a winning situation at this moment is our collective mental health. This makes sense, after our individual nervous systems have been on high alert for these past two years due to pandemic, with miniscule relief thanks to the continued escalation of our political, peace and environmental climates.

The reality of this prolonged stress and anxiety is that we can’t be as empathetic as we’d like. Which is why I’m looking forward to our Social Justice Study Circle’s next discussion. We’ll examine how Intention and Impact can be more closely aligned.

If you’re scratching your head about that last sentence, ask yourself if you’ve ever said something that you meant to be kind or funny or thoughtful and got the opposite response. If the answer is “yes”, you’re not alone. We’ve all experienced our intentions failing to have the desired impact.

The most helpful gift you can give yourself that WILL impact others is self-compassion. Especially as stress continues to be elevated, compassion is the solution.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great personal battle.

Cheers!

Support Invisible Hands

The Donors’ Forum, a discussion group where Deborah volunteers monthly as tech host, kicked off its new season on September 14th. Attendees were simultaneously smitten and inspired by Liam Elkind and his story of the organic formation of Invisible Hands, which began as a Facebook post. It was an offer from 3 twenty-somethings to help neighbors pick up groceries as the pandemic began spreading through New York City. In just a few short months, they organized over 10,000 volunteers and delivered over $1,000,000 in groceries, medicine, and other necessities throughout NYC and the surrounding counties. Inspired? Debt-Free Holidays!

The holidays are right around the corner. What should be a time for togetherness and joy is often tainted by stress and money worries. Ozzie, a new fintech company that's reinventing how people manage their money, is proposing a new paradigm: More joy and less debt. As part of their Debt-Free Holidays movement, they'll be sharing practical tips on how to prepare financially and emotionally for the holiday season each week until the end of the year. Check out the first post HERE and follow them on Instagram and Facebook for more goodies.

Seeking Your Contribution

SEEK Safely.org, a 501(c)3 and DRIVEN’s favorite non-profit organization, is dedicated to empowering seekers of self-help and ensuring they have a safe self-improvement journey. This is the year that SEEK Safely will grow as a movement! They are now collaborating with various self-help leaders, yoga instructors and life coaches who want to promote safe and ethical practices in the personal development industry. They are developing a professional podcast series. And they are determined to get a consumer protection bill to the floor! Your sponsorship at their annual Kirby Jam fundraiser on Nov 6th, named in honor of a dear friend whom we tragically lost to self-help fraud, will help keep the momentum going. Learn more about the event HERE, and help support an important cause that touches everyone’s lives.
