Finding The Opportunity in Crisis.

Looking back through August, for some of us it was a bit of a blur, mimicking any of the other upside-down months of 2020. When we consider the long, exhausting pandemic moment we all find ourselves in, the concept of “crisis” tends to be a common descriptor. Now consider this: The Chinese word for “crisis” is composed of 2 characters, one which translates to “danger” and the other to “opportunity”. It’s that opportunity part that can inspire us to resist the temptation to dwell in the past or panic about the future. Remaining in the present can reveal the tiny, magical aspects of life which are seemingly designed to pull us out of the darkness.

If that darkness is tugging on you like a weight, immerse yourself in my August blog article Be Here Now: 4 Ways to Find Clarity During Times of Uncertainty. It will offer an injection of confidence to help you manage your emotions during this unprecedented era, while also serving as a constructive wake-up call that “getting back to normal” may not be a feasible option— something to wrap your mind around with optimism and diminishing uncertainty.

Looking ahead, let me start with today. As you’re reading this, I’m settling into the present in a way that I haven’t entertained in over a year: By taking a vacation week to “lay low” through September 7th. Having teetered on the edge of burnout, it was time to acknowledge that my self-care habits had served me well during a dramatic six-month run of pandemic stressors coinciding with the development of DRIVEN’s new e-course— which is finally complete and available, I’m proud to announce!

You see, when COVID-19 arrived, many of us (including me) assumed it would amount to a brief interruption of our normal lives and career flow. Thus, we applied a “bandage solution” by working from home, soon realizing that we’d need a more permanent “treatment” to get us through months, if not years, of reconfigured workweeks (As I see it, we're not even in the second inning of this pandemic today).

With this ongoing paradigm shift in mind, I’ve developed a new blog article and a DRIVEN OfficeHours session for Friday, September 18th exploring the challenges our clients have been facing and the adaptation strategies they’ve been employing during the past 6 months of virtual work and communications. This will be especially useful for professionals new to remote interactions. Join the discussion by registering HERE and bring your questions! The goal, as it has been from the start, is to get us all through this— together.

Cheers!
