In This New Year, Consider The Vitality of Your Future Self!

Although I remained physically distanced throughout 2021, my coaching practice expanded into a variety of people’s lives. My clients benefited from thought partnership to help maintain perspective and strengthen self-awareness. This allowed them to choose their personal and professional mindsets strategically.

2021 was also the year I became a Certified Professional Diversity Coach, earned a certification in Values Coaching, and was awarded my ICF Certification! My network also grew (despite distancing), due to my participation in a Racial Justice Study Circle and a virtual retreat called By The Fireside, which strengthened my storytelling skills. The bonus was the serendipitous creation of Story Sisters, with whom I meet bi-monthly to continue our narrative and mutual support.

My personal development continued at a virtual retreat in September, giving me the space to go deep into Don Miguel Ruiz’s Four Agreements and start living a more authentic life. Additionally, a personal aspiration has finally stuck: I started doing yoga one year ago, and continue to put in an hour on the mat twice a week!

And finally, Space, my 2021 Word of the Year, gave me permission to explore and report in about how to create headspace for reflection, heart space for better communications and safe space for deeper connection. This helped me walk the talk by supporting my career and personal development.

Looking ahead through 2022, I’ll be shifting my work cadence by coaching and collaborating more on projects with my coaching colleagues, as these are the areas that brought the most joy in 2021. Collaboration is possible due to the two coaching communities I’m involved with, where I’m surrounded by people I aspire to be like.

My first coaching community, the C-IQ® EU Collective, will be publishing a second volume of a book in the spring— Changing Conversations for A Changing World, Vol 2: How COVID-19 Changed the Future of Work - Aspirations, Opportunities & Best Practices. The 9 case studies herein detail what worked well in this new virtual landscape and provide virtual practices to carry forward into the new global workplace paradigm. There will be a chapter with my name on it, about building trust online in contentious situations. If you’re a manager or leader, put this book onto your wish list!

I’ll also be diligently exploring the concept of Cadence, which is my new Word of the Year for 2022! I will investigate the Cadence of life’s daily, weekly and quarterly seasons from a perspective of setting up my older, wiser self with a life of continued vitality, curiosity and engagement.

I hope that my 2022 intentions motivate you to consider how you’d like to spend your time and energy. We have more choices than we realize!

Cheers!
-Deborah Goldstein
