How Will YOU Navigate The Coming Challenges?

Hi There,

This was an exponentially appreciated holiday weekend! After Thanksgiving was all but cancelled last year, our family dinner was delightful this year. There was a true sense of gratitude for being together, live-and-in-person.

Then, serendipitously, I did something quite unlike me: I took the rest of the weekend off— smack in the middle of some high-stakes projects with A LOT of moving parts, not to mention my forever growing to-do list of life. It was an unplanned mini-vacation, and clearly what my mind and spirit needed.

I slept late each morning, took long walks, made 2 batches of turkey stock, read a page-turning novel, stayed up late playing a powerful game based on telling personal stories, ate delicious meals, and did NOT consume any news media.

Although the message of the omicron variant did reach me, as did the ripple effects of fear throughout the world markets, for this weekend, I was immune. I was okay with the uncertainty of the times. And when I awoke on Monday morning, I felt rejuvenated, focused and poised to tackle the week (Just between you and me, it’s been a while since I felt such a surge of excitement!)

I had taken advantage of what Tara Brach labels “Resourcing”. She compares this to kayaking against a river current. The force may be strong and challenging, but when you take time out to recover safely behind a proverbial rock, you can name the challenge, reconnect with your frontal cortex, and continue your journey with strategy and direction.

I’m thrilled to recognize that I did just this without realizing it! And being a student of the growth mindset, I’ll want to be strategic going forward. We’re all perpetually battling a heavy current these days, facing a third wave of Covid uncertainty. The workforce turmoil will continue for many employers not willing to consider how to break the mold of the past work model and contemplate a new reality. Resourcing, like resilience, is the key to making it through the journey safely, healthfully, and might I add, joyfully.

How will you give yourself the space to recover during the long, cold months of winter? Remember: When you make intentional commitments to yourself now, it becomes possible to foresee the interstices of recovery.

Cheers!
-Deborah
